It did happen on that old rig for a dozen or so scenes, and I'd go in and manually keyframe the brightness of the darker camera to match. It was super tedious!

Current rig doesn't have that issue as the cameras exposures are intertwined and won't adjust themselves independently mid-shot, so 🙏🙏🙏

I didn't announce it yesterday, but now it's today so... yay upcoming scenes, lol

Very true. But I would be concerned about one camera adjusting exposure while the other didn’t.

Like if a girl is off to one side during a threesome and she’s wearing an all white outfit. Or she’s African American. With darker skin. Then she leans into one side to whisper sweet nothings into your ear. My fear would be one camera adjusting exposure. While the other doesn’t.

But, I haven’t seen any occurrences of this. So I guess the camera’s metering is pretty good and doesn’t react too quickly. And the concern is moot.

Intersting peek behind the curtain though. Thanks for the info Tim!

Since you around today anyways. You could announce next week’s scenes today! 😉

> @bacula8630 I would have thought they’d be shooting full manual.

I wish! But that would have opened the door up for more egregious mistakes if the cameras are mismatched, or set to the wrong setting. It was a risk/reward decision, and this was one of the very few scenes on that rig where it affected the entire scene. There were a few outdoor-at-night shots that had similar issues, so it was easier to put "don't shoot outdoor at night without having the talent in front of something like a garage door that you can light" than risk a producer batch-shoot and deliver 4 scenes in a row where everything inexplicably comes out fluorescent orange in one eye 😞. Yes, the producers have monitors to view both eyes, but you'd be surprised how even a slight mistake could cascade and create some really strange artifacts.

Thankfully, our current rig has much better auto white-balance, and it overall much better with exposure and dynamic range. So, while we're still weary of manual, as that would open us up to human error, auto has gotten so good recently that I don't think it'd be worth the risk of shooting manual.
